This brief covers signals that emerged Tuesday through Friday this week and were not included in Tuesday's main issue. Site-only. No email send.
Signal
A practitioner running AI citation monitoring against their own site found two major AI platforms returning zero citations despite normal indexing, traffic, and Search Console data. Platform-level crawler access controls, not content quality or topical authority, explained the gap. Seven days of server log analysis confirmed certain AI crawlers were being blocked at the infrastructure layer, invisibly, by default configurations on managed hosting. The gap between platforms was 37.8% presence on one and 0% on two others.
Thesis
Your content strategy is probably built on signals that no longer reflect where buyers are actually discovering expertise. If you have not checked AI citation coverage by platform, you do not know whether your firm is being recommended or invisible. The unsettling part is not that this gap exists. It is that every traditional metric you check to confirm your content is working will tell you everything is fine. The firms your buyers are finding when they use AI to research their problem may not be better than you. They may simply be technically accessible in ways you have not audited.
Do this today
Pull your server access logs or hosting firewall settings and search for entries referencing AI crawler user agents. Look specifically for blocked or rate-limited requests. If you are on managed WordPress or a CDN with bot filtering, check whether AI crawlers are allowed through by default or require manual whitelisting. Document what you find.
Do this week
Run your domain against at least three AI platforms by querying each one for the specific problems your firm solves and noting whether your firm, your content, or your named expertise appears in any response. Log the results by platform. If you appear on some and not others, the gap is almost certainly access, not authority. Use that finding to brief whoever manages your hosting or infrastructure before next Tuesday.
